Storage, network, and a clean cutover at a new plant.

A new automotive manufacturing plant needed storage, network, and data protection stood up — and its legacy NetApp data moved onto a modern clustered platform without disrupting the line.

The challenge

The Sanand plant needed a complete storage and network foundation built from the ground up — primary storage, the wired LAN, and plant-wide Wi-Fi — on a manufacturing timeline that left little room for rework.

Existing data lived on an ageing NetApp 7-mode system. Moving it to clustered ONTAP (C-mode) is not an in-place upgrade but a migration onto a different architecture, and it had to happen without data loss or disruption to plant operations.

Our approach

We deployed the NetApp storage and designed and installed the plant's LAN and Wi-Fi as a single coordinated build, so storage, network, and clients came online together rather than waiting on one another.

Data was migrated from 7-mode to C-mode in controlled steps, validated against the source before each cutover, with a backup solution implemented so the new estate was protected from day one.

The outcome

The plant went live on modern NetApp storage with a fully deployed LAN and Wi-Fi network, and all data moved off the legacy 7-mode system onto clustered ONTAP.

A backup solution underpins the environment, giving the plant a recoverable, supportable storage platform with room to grow.
